Justice for Iran
The organisation “Justice for Iran” was established in July 2010 by Shadi Sadr. Sadr is a well known human rights lawyer and women’s rights activist.
The aim of Justice for Iran is to protect and promote human rights through action to combat impunity. Shadi Sadr started addressing the impunity of representatives of the Iranian regime for using systematic sexual abuse of women as a method of torture and to extract confessions. For this purpose she organised a round table meeting with leading women and human rights defenders from Iran and international experts on transitional justice and accountability mechanisms. In 2010 she established Justice for Iran to continue her work on impunity and sexual abuse of women.
Justice for Iran promotes and defends women’s rights in the increasingly discriminatory and fundamentalist environment in Iran and addresses the issue of impunity for sexual violence against women by the Iranian regime. Justice for Iran raises public awareness and demands accountability for women’s rights violations committed by the Iranian government via political pressure and international accountability mechanisms.
